Orval
Gaume, Belgium
The Orval Brewery is a traditional Belgium Trappist brewery located
within the walls of the Abbaye Notre-Dame d'Orval monastery in the
Gaume region of Belgium. As with all other Trappist breweries, the
money they generate by the brewery is devoted both to various forms of
social and charitable aids, and to the upkeep of the site. Their
Trappist Ale was first made in 1931, and has a complex and unusual
flavor and aroma produced by unique strains of yeast. Their beer is
known for having Sunset-orange color; a fruity and slightly acidic
bouquet, firm body, profound hop bitterness, and long, dry finish. |

Westmalle
Westmalle, Belgium
Westmalle is a traditional Trappist brewery whose purpose is not to
make a profit. Income takes care of the livelihood of the monks, upkeep
of the abbey site and charity. The Tripel, and Dubbel of Westmalle are
living quality beers whose flavours develop over time. The flavour
mainly depends on the age, the storage method, the serving method and
the serving temperature. Thus no two glasses are completely the same.
Both the Dubbel and the Tripel are considered by many tasters as the
benchmarks for the style. |

De Proef Brouwerij Lochristi, Belgium
In 1996 highly regarded brewing engineer and professor, Dirk Naudts,
created De Proef Brouwerij. The ultra-scientific brewery blends modern
equipment and technologies with traditional brewing methods. Each
beer is crafted in a 9-barrel brewhouse that Michael Jackson once
described as "the ultimate toy for the aspiring homebrewer." The
flexible nature of the brewery enables Naudts to create an impressive
range of traditional and not so traditional ales. |
