Newly Arrived Products:
Peak Espresso Stout Our robust Espresso Amber Ale is
brewed with locally roasted, organic Fair Trade Certified™ espresso with help
from our friends down thestreet at Coffee By Design.
Stoudt's Karnival Kolsch - This refreshing German-style ale
was brewed using 2 row malt, a small amount of red wheat malt, and all German
hops for bittering and aroma. This straw colored ale is smooth like a lager due
to colder fermentation temperature and an extended cellaring time. It is
dry and crisp with a slight fruitiness which compliments the mild hop
bitterness and aroma.
Left Hand 400 lb Monkey Why does the world need another IPA
? Because this one ain't like them others. Using hops of a different
color, earthy and herbal, it's well balanced by bready malt. The result ?
An English -style IPA that seperates itself from the ubiquitous bunch.
6.6% ABV
Clipper City - BIG DIPA Reminiscent of our best
selling Loose Cannon with its triple hopped brewing process, this new brew has
an earthy hop aroma instead of citrus. This amber colored Double IPA is nicely
balanced with an enduring hop finish. Clipper City will produce only a small
batch, so availability is extremely limited.
Flying Dog - Garde Dog : A French Syle Ale,
deep golden to light copper with a slight haze, toasty and sweet malt aroma
with earth tones. 5.5% ABV
Avery DuganA IPA - Lupulin Rapture Incarnate! As fervent
devotees of hops, we found ourselves on a quest to create a
transcendental IPA capable of quenching our voracious lupulin desires. Our
mantra became "unity of bitterness, hop flavor and aroma."
Enlightened, duganA IPA was born: A brutally bitter, dank, piney and resinous
ale designed for those seeking a divine hop experience. 8.5% ABV

News:
Why Guiness Bubbles defy physics or do they ? :
IT'S NOT the result of downing one
too many – Guinness bubbles really do go down instead of up.
Pour just about any other pint of beer and the bubbles obey the laws of physics. Filled with buoyant gas, they rise to the surface and form a head. But with a Guinness the bubbles appear to be cascading down the side of the glass – yet the creamy top remains.
Members of the Royal Society of
Chemistry investigated the riddle by using a super-fast camera that magnifies
the bubbles 10 times. At the centre of the glass, the bubbles were free to rise
rapidly, pulling the surrounding liquid with them and setting up a circulating
current.
Flowing outwards from the frothy “head”, the current hit the glass edge and was
pushed down. Bubbles held back by dragging on the side of the glass were caught
in the circulation and forced to go with the flow – the wrong way for a bubble.
A spokesman for the Royal Society, based in London’s Piccadilly, said:
“Guinness bubbles are small, due to being released at high pressure by the
widget and therefore easily pushed around. Also, in lager the gas is carbon
dioxide, which is easily dissolved. The gas in Guinness bubbles is nitrogen –
not so easily dissolved. Finally, the contrast between the dark liquid and the
light bubbles makes them easier to see."
Craft Beer
Continues to Grow
The Brewers Association,
the trade association that tabulates production statistics for US breweries,
today released 2009 data on the U.S. craft brewing industry. In a year when
other brewers saw a slowdown in sales, small and independent craft brewers saw
sales dollars increase 10.3 percent and volume increase 7.2 percent over 2008,
representing a growth of 613,992 barrels equal to roughly 8.5 million cases.
Overall, U.S. beer sales were down approximately 5 million barrels (31 gallons
per U.S. barrel) in 2009.
In 2009, craft brewers
represented 4.3 percent of volume and 6.9 percent of retail dollars for the
total U.S. beer category. With the total U.S. beer industry representing an
estimated retail dollar value of $101 billion, the Brewers Association
estimates the actual dollar sales figure from craft brewers in 2009 was $7
billion, up from $6.3 billion in 2008.
The total number of U.S. craft brewers grew from 1,485 to 1,542 in 2009, and
they produced 9,115,635 barrels, up from 8,501,713 barrels in 2008. Overall
U.S. beer sales fell from approximately 210.4 million barrels to 205.8 million
barrels.
The 2009 growth and popularity of beer from small and independent breweries did
not go unnoticed by industry observers. The National Restaurant Association
Chef Survey (see results), for example, cited "locally-produced wine and
beer" among its top five overall trends to watch for in 2010. In the alcohol
and cocktails category, the organization ranked "locally-produced wine and
beer" as its top trend, while "food-beer pairings" came in at
number five on the list.
Anderson Valley brewing sold
Ken Allen, one of
the pioneers in the craft beer movement, has announced Anderson Valley Brewing
will be sold to HMB Holdings. The transaction is expected to be complete in
April.
Under the leadership of respected industry pioneer Ken Allen, Anderson Valley
Brewery has been creating award winning craft beers in Boonville, CA since
1987.
HMB Holdings LLC is owned and managed by Trey White, a fifteen year veteran of
the alcoholic beverage industry. Through his role as executive vice-president
at United States Beverage, Mr. White worked with a variety of fast growing
successful American craft beers including Goose Island, Rogue, Ipswich and SLO
as well as selected imports including Grolsch from Holland. HMB will retain the
current brewing and production facilities at Anderson Valley Brewery while
expanding the sales and marketing capabilities.
“Ken Allen is a true leader within the American craft beer industry,” says Mr.
White “The beers created by Anderson Valley are amongst the premier craft beers
available in the world. Ken’s high-quality craftsmanship combined with his
respect for the environment is a legacy we will respect and uphold. HMB is
thrilled with the opportunity to grow consumer awareness and expand the
distribution of the Anderson Valley family of world class award winning craft
beers.”
Ken Allen says: “I have enjoyed immensely growing the Anderson Valley Brewery
from a start-up operating a modest brew pub in Boonville into a world class
regional craft brewery. The people and friends I have made in the industry will
last a lifetime. I want to thank the many customers and brewery fans who have
become key parts of the Anderson Valley Brewery family.
“I have looked long and hard for the right person to whom to entrust our legacy
and I could not have found a better partner in Trey White. His passion and
knowledge of the craft beer industry, coupled with his respect for the brands
we have developed, will make him the ideal person to take the Anderson Valley
Brewery to the next level within the growing craft beer industry.”
Located in the bucolic Anderson Valley region, the environmentally friendly,
solar powered brewery produces Boont Amber Ale and Hop Ottin’ IPA in addition
to many other highly respected craft beers. Ken Allen was awarded the craft
industry’s prestigious Small Brewer Association Recognition award last year for
his decades of service to the craft beer industry.
